Famous for its unique beauty of the valley and lush vegetation, this is the last town located on the highway, right before central Bhutan. The higher part of the valley is filled with pastures. The Wangdue Phodrang is quite an important tourist destination because of the famous dzong, which goes by the same name. However, it is not the only attraction of the land. Wangdue Phodrang Dzong
Located at the top of the hill, overlooking the valley, this religious site is famous for its architectural features. A recent fire has destroyed a part of this structure and renovation is in progress. However, it is open for tourists for sightseeing. The best time to visit the Wangdue Phodrang dzong is during autumn to take part in Wangdue Phodrang Tsechu, a festival celebrated inside the structure.
This valley is not located inside the Wangdue Phodrang. However, those who visit the district, make a point to reach the valley too. Closer to the mountainous region, this valley is quite a sight to visit. If you are visiting during summer, do not miss to take part in trekking, hiking and biking activities. If you are visiting during winter, you get to spot the rare black-necked crane on the meadows.
This monastery is located in the Gangteygewog. Built in 17th century, this religious structure is famous for sightseeing, exploration and religious activities. The monastery accepts a small number of pilgrims to stay overnight in the guesthouse. The guesthouse will have bare minimum amenities. However, you get to enjoy and explore the ancient structure. Apart from the monastery, the complex also holds a quarters for monks, meditation centers and others. Meditation centers are open to tourists too.
This temple is also called the Rada Lhakhang. This temple is famous for its collection of statues of deities (guardian deities). If you visit this temple, take part in the dice ritual. You will be given a dice and asked to roll it, keeping your prayer in mind. Based on the outcome of the dice, it will be determined whether your prayer will be answered. Remember that one need to be dressed very appropriately to enter the temple and photography is not allowed inside the structure.
Gasleo and Nahee Village
Located on the western side of the region, around 2 hours away from Wangdue Phodrang, this is the place for picnic lovers. The villages are filled with picnic spots. In addition, it is the best place to enjoy the culture of the land. Visit during autumn to take part in the harvest festival.
Apart from these, there are numerous natural sightseeing spots in and around the district. The best time to visit in Bhutan is during autumn. The first reason is that the land will be pleasingly beautiful and the climate will be very pleasant.
